The Sensory Smart Store was founded by Mel Thomsett in New Forest, Hampshire. It’s almost unimaginable to most people not to be able to put socks on your child, but that’s the conundrum that Mel was faced with a few years ago. Mel is Mum to a son who was diagnosed with Autism at age 2 years and 9 months. After researching Sensory Processing Disorders and getting some help from an Occupational Therapist, Mel realised that some of his mysterious behaviour was his way of trying to cope. He wasn’t being challenging - he was being challenged. Big difference
